As part of The Arts Foundation Te Tumi Toi Boost Ōtautahi, Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre is seeking crowd funding to create a new flexible Black Box Theatre in the North Quad for smaller community performances.
Black Box Theatre, Boost Ōtautahi Crowd Funding Campaign
Creativity is an essential ingredient to Ōtautahi. Help us make the Black Box Theatre happen – a small, dark and flexible space that can be transformed to transport an audience to another time and place!
Boost Ōtautahi is backed by generous sponsors Rātā Foundation, Christchurch City Council and Creative New Zealand, who are supporting fifteen innovative arts projects in Christchurch by giving matching funding for their crowdfunding campaign.
As The Arts Centre restoration project moves into its final stages for the former Electrical Engineering building, the plan is to reinvent the old Cloisters Theatre space and fit it out as a 50- to 70-person black box theatre. To make this a usable, flexible and exciting space, it requires lighting, flexible seating and a sound system, as well as a series of heavy black curtains.
The black box can be a place where experimental theatre, music or dance can be explored, and allow small performing groups in Ōtautahi to have an accessible and affordable platform.
Every dollar donated is matched by a dollar, so your donation regardless of size makes a huge impact! The campaign runs until 11.59pm on June 30.
