The landscape of Christchurch is rich with contemporary public artworks and a driving force behind this is SCAPE Public Art.
With an established base of public artwork legacy pieces through the central city – including at The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora – SCAPE also has an annual season that provides an opportunity to introduce new temporary works and a wider programme of events.
Playful strategy or a battle of wills, Season 2019 features more than a dozen inspiring artworks from local and internationally renowned artists. Curated by Emma Bugden, they will bring a sense of solidity and location during the six-week season that runs from 5 October to 16 November 2019.
Linked via the SCAPE Public Art Walkway, the artworks will make us think and feel: about what home means, the emotional resonance of materials, and the patterns and rituals that help us make sense of the world.
The season’s public programme will ignite an assortment of free, interactive activities in the city.
In SCAPE’s Learning Zone at Tūranga, there will also be plenty of opportunity for children and school groups to learn and discover more about art through education activities linked to our artworks.
In addition to the season, SCAPE installs public art all year round, while also maintaining a focus on premier public art events and programmes promoted as an accessible public art walkway.
