Lumière Cinemas

Days / Hours: Every day except Christmas Day

West Lecture, Worcester Boulevard

Box office opening hours: Half an hour before the first film until half an hour after the start of the final film of the day.

Lumière Cinemas is delighted to gift wrap the unique occasion of what it means to go the cinema.

Between the owners, Ōtautahi Christchurch cinephile Nick Paris and former Hollywood screenwriter Max Hoffman, they have more than 40 years of experience with the moving image and how it’s delivered.

This boutique cinema complex has two theatres – The Bernhardt with 67 seats and The Bardot with 42 seats – and features state-of-the-art technology with vintage ambience, luxurious seating and a focus on service.

Nick and Max take present engaging, contemplative, and sometimes confronting films covering all genres from cult and foreign language to gripping documentaries, reissues and film festivals. Lumière is a mecca for cinephiles!

Both cinemas are accessible and wheelchair friendly and are fitted with assistive listening devices suitable for people with hearing aids.

The cinema also features the delightful Bijou bar overlooking the beautiful Christchurch Botanic Gardens with specially designed cocktails named after old Christchurch cinemas, a great selection of local craft beers, a bespoke wine list, Lyttelton Coffee Company coffees and T Leaf tea.

A snack menu of freshly-baked pastries, bagels, cheeseboards, Rollickin Gelato, and She Chocolate is also available, and all food sold can be taken into the cinema with you.
