  • Venue: Maker Workshop

    During this pottery workshop, you'll be making a box from clay slabs using hand-building technique. The surface of the box will then be carved, making individual designs using carving tools. These are individual creations and no two boxes will be the same.

    Artist bio

    Gaining a 1st Class BA Hons in Fine & Applied Art at the University of Ulster, Ireland in 2006, Jane McCulla immigrated to NZ in 2009. She teaches throughout NZ and undertakes private and public commissions. For over 7 years she was a Regional Council Member and VP of Ceramics Association of NZ. In 2017 Jane completed a residency at The Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, working predominantly with porcelain in China. Her ceramics have been in various publications and exhibited in both solo and national shows in London, UK, Ireland and NZ and are held in public collections. Her ceramics have received awards including a Portage Merit Award in 2013.

    This event is part of The Arts Centre's Sculpture Festival 2024 featuring 37 New Zealand artists and 250+ artworks, on show and on sale. Sculptural pieces include ceramics, jewellery, sculpture, glass and mixed media. There will be a range of artist-led creative workshops during opening weekend (5 & 6 Oct).
