Olympic Lessons for School Groups

Venue: Teece Museum of Classical Antiquities

With the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, the Teece Museum has put together an interactive lesson plan centred around the ancient Olympics, aimed at students from Year 4 through to Year 10. We wish to invite any teachers who plan to incorporate the Olympics into their teaching to book their class in for a visit to the Teece Museum.

Each lesson is designed to be an hour long, during which time students will learn about the origins of the ancient Olympics, how the Greek world came to a halt to celebrate the Olympic festival, and the connections between the ancient games and the modern event we all know today. The lesson will finish by connecting with New Zealand history by looking at one of New Zealand’s early Olympians, Anthony Wilding.

Students will be given the opportunity to see objects from the collection up close and participate in hands-on activities designed to suit a range of learning styles.

To book your class for this exciting new lesson, please get in contact with one of our curators at teecemuseum@canterbury.ac.nz.
