Out of the expanse of the Canterbury Plains comes One Waka.

A dub roots cooperative bringing their take on reggae rhythms, up skanked tempos and soulful vibes.

The One Waka family history began long before music was its main focus.

As the different braids in the river crossed, so too did the stories and connections from the land, bringing about an indescribable buzz.

With enjoying the journey of life as their primary focus, One Waka’s mission is to sing their songs through the rich and colourful framework of reggae music, always paying respect to those before them and enjoying the ride along the way!

This event is part of Altiora Live where superb local musicians play sweet tunes, while the bartender pours drinks and food vendors serve up tasty treats. Catch up with friends, unwind with colleagues; the dance floor calls.

Presenting a host of genres from jazz and funk to blues and skiffle. The Arts Centre is supporting Altiora Live to grow Ōtautahi’s live music scene. The vibe is casual yet classy. Friday nights, 7-9pm between 21 February to 28 March.
